Designing the Sennhesier Soundbar Portfolio

We designed three products to extend Sennheiser’s soundbar portfolio; a small and a medium sized soundbar plus a subwoover.

Notation Service: Industrial Design, Interaction Design

Client: Sennheiser, Sonova Consumer Hearing

Year: 2019 - 2022

In a Nutshell

AMBEO Soundbar Plus, Mini, and Subwoofer form Sennheiser’s modular home audio system—designed to deliver immersive 3D sound with minimal setup. Launched in 2022, the product range expands immersive audio into new price points and spaces, strengthening the portfolio of Sonova consumer hearing.

Challenge

The core challenge of this project was to create an industrial and interaction design that scaled across thre products —Soundbar Plus, Mini, and Subwoofer. The app, remote control, and on-device UI should all work together consistently and the industrial design should scale across all three products.

Solution

We collaborated closely with product management and engineering to develop the industrial design of both Ambeo soundbars and the subwoover. The scalable design system we developed allowed the co-development of three products at the same time and established a succesfull product family for the client.

Process Insights

Product Vision

We created a modular design language adaptable to different product scales and acoustics. The sliced geometry and directional visual language tie the family together while supporting optimal speaker placement and acoustic performance.

Interaction Design

With three interfaces—on-device UI, app, and remote—we designed a layered control system. It simplifies primary interactions and gives advanced users full control through the Smart Control app, ensuring clarity without overwhelming the everyday experience.

Development Support

We worked closely with internal teams through prototyping, engineering, and testing phases. Across product builds and organizational handovers, we ensured each design detail—indicator behavior, tactile materials, packaging—reflected the system's intent and quality.
