Industrial design for high-stakes products

How engagements with Notation typically start

Service 1

Product Direction Assessment

A short, fixed-scope engagement used before major product commitments.

Triggers:
  • A new product generation or platform shift is approaching
  • CapEx commitments (tooling, suppliers, regulation) are about to make decisions costly to change.
  • Cognitive load is increasing faster than cross-team alignment

Used to:
  • Identify which decisions are still flexible vs. costly to change
  • Surface system trade-offs across engineering, brand, design, cost, and manufacturing
  • Reduce rework and late-stage reversals before major CapEx commitments

Timing: Typically 3-4 weeks

This is not for you if:
  • you’re looking for ideas or styling
  • you need late-stage fixes close to launch
  • you want validation for decisions already made

Service 2

Industrial Design
Program

Ongoing industrial design work that typically follows the System Decision Assessment.

We work across hardware, software, engineering, business, and brand as one system, not parallel workstreams.

Built for teams operating under complex constraints. This requires close alignment, iteration, and a culture of trust. These are prerequisites for this kind of work.

This work builds on the decisions made during the Product Direction Assessment.
